Hello Renegades,

The staff at the MTS Iceplex have been working hard to make the upcoming Renegades Spring Hockey Program even better than last. We’ve reviewed and analyzed the information from the surveys last spring to improve upon the Renegade program experience. We appreciate the feedback, it has  allowed us to build the finest program for the kids. We are certain the program will provide an opportunity for kids to grow as hockey players and as people. The responsibility of the Renegades program is to maximize the players hockey development. This is accomplished through quality repetition, repeating fundamental skills, using correct technique, until skills are fully learned. It is very important for kids to give it there best effort every session on and off the ice, as it will give them the best opportunity to develop their skills. Our responsibility as an organization is to ensure we provide a valuable program to your son or daughter. We respect the financial and time commitment it takes from parents in order to participate in our program. We look forward to seeing everyone again for the 2012 Renegades program. We hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the hockey season so far. Best of luck in the rest of the season.

NB *We will be holding spots for all of last years Renegade players until December 15th/2011, please register before this date. After December 15th we will be opening up spots for new Renegade hockey players to join our spring hockey program. Attached is the 2012 Renegades registration form.

Our Spring Hockey Program
Our program develops the transition skating, and puck possession skills that each player must possess in order to be successful in today’s game. We combine individual skill, power skating, agility, quickness and strength training along with exhibition games, intra-squad and tournament competition to ensure all players have the opportunity to put their practice into game situations. Not only are players learning the individual skills to succeed, but also learning advanced team tactics which will help them excel in game situations. The Renegade Training Theory

We were the first Total Hockey training centre in Canada, leaving behind the traditional methods of developing hockey players for a better way.

Our method of developing highly skiled hockey players is based on high quality repetition of the basic skills. Our coaches are committed to player development, not wins and losses. When the basic skills are developed and perfected, the on ice performance of the players will follow suit, leading to long term success for each player that we work with.

Jonathan Toews, Travis Zajac, Nigel Dawes,Travis Hamonic, Derek Meech, and the WINNIPEG JETS are just a few of the professional players to go along with the grass roots minor hockey players that continue to improve with every session they do at THC Winnipeg.

The Renegade Coaching Team

Focus Fitness Team:

At Focus Fitness we are a diverse group with degrees in Exercise Sport Science and Athletic Therapy. Combining years of experience in the field with a strong passion for hockey specific training makes our team unique.

THC Team:

At THC we are enthusiastic for the game and are committed to teaching the skills and abilities necessary to succeed in hockey. The staff here at THC all have playing experience at the junior and university level, and now they want to share that knowledge with all the athletes they work with.

2012 RENEGADE SELECTS

This spring season the Renegades Spring Hockey Program will offer to those interested, an opportunity for their player to compete in a higher level tournament with a select group of players who will be evaluated throughout our 8 week spring hockey developmental program.  This will be offered at the 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 age groups only.

The 2011 Renegades surveys indicated that many participants would like the opportunity to compete at a higher level. Our program is developmental, there are a wide range of abilities and often times the more advanced players require a greater push to improve their skills as a player.

The Renegades Selects will be all about team work, competitiveness, and skill.

The Renegades Selects will consist of 9 forwards, 6 defence, and 2 goalies at each age group.

This program will not start until the Renegades development program finishes, so there will be a total of 2 team practices, 1 off-ice THC & Focus Fitness session and then the team will play in the North American Hockey Classic Tournament in the Open Division (hosted here in Winnipeg - most games at the MTS ICEPLEX).   This tournament provides a 5 game guarantee.

The 2000, 2001, 2003 Renegades Selects will be together from June 4th to June 10th and the 2002 Renegades Selects from June 11th to 17th.

Additional cost for the Selects program will be $225 + gst = $236.25

Players will be evaluated in the following manner:

  • Work Ethic – players are expected to put their best effort forward in all areas of the program including Focus Fitness and Total Hockey (THC).
  • Game Performance – players will be evaluated on team play, hockey IQ, effort and overall skills.
  • Practice Performance – players will be evaluated throughout practice sessions and training sessions. Evaluation will be on skill development, effort and leadership abilities.
  • Off-Ice Training Performance – players will be evaluated on the effort they put forth in Focus Fitness and Total Hockey sessions.  Coaches conducting sessions will evaluate each player’s effort and leadership abilities.
  • Leadership – Listening attentively, encouraging team mates who need extra help or a pat on the back, positive attitude on the bench, in the dressing room and on the ice.
  • Teamwork – Players may have more skill than other players but have no concept of team.  Players will be evaluated on their ability to play in a team environment.  Individual skill is not the only factor taken into consideration in selecting this team.  Players with more skill may not make the Selects team because they are not able to play within a team setting, trying to do it all by themselves.  This is not how to succeed in a team game.
